Jyotiraditya Scindia is an Indian politician. Jyotiraditya Scindia full name is Jyotiraditya Madhavrao Scindia. He is a Member of Parliament from Guna constituency in Madhya Pradesh.
Jyotiraditya’s grandmother and Rajmata of Gwalior Vijayaraje Scindia started her politics with the Congress. In 1957, she reached Parliament by winning the Lok Sabha seat from Guna. She joined the Jana Sangh in 1967 after ten years in Congress. It was due to Vijayaraje that the Jana Sangh strengthened in his region.
Even when Indira Gandhi had a wave all over the country in 1971, the Jana Sangh managed to win three seats from here. Vijayaraje Scindia became MP from Bhind, Atal Bihari Vajpayee from Gwalior and Jyotiraditya Scindia’s father Madhavrao Scindia from Guna.
Jyotiraditya Scindia’s father Madhav Rao Scindia became an MP at just 26 years of age. He was also in the Jana Sangh but after the Emergency in 1977, he got separated from the Jana Sangh and his mother Vijayaraje Scindia. In 1980, Jyotiraditya’s father contested on a Congress ticket and he also became a Union Minister. He died in a plane crash in 2001.
After the father’s death in 2001, Jyotiraditya Scindia replaced the father in Congress. Jyotiraditya Scindia was elected MP in 2002 when Guna seat was held. Jyotiraditya Scindia has never lost an election since the first victory till 2019. But in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Krishna Pal Singh Yadav, his only ally, defeated him.
Scindia did not get the post of president of Madhya Pradesh Congress despite repeated demands since the defeat in the Lok Sabha elections. After that, there was a dispute between Kamal Nath and Scindia about sending Rajya Sabha.
