Ranjan Gogoi served as the 46th Chief Justice of India. Justice Ranjan Gogoi was sworn in as the 46th Chief Justice of the country on October 3, 2018.
Justice Gogoi started advocating in 1978 from the age of 24. Born on November 18, 1954, a longtime advocate in the Guwahati High Court, Justice Gogoi has had considerable experience in constitutional, taxation and corporate matters.
He became a permanent judge on 28 February 2001 in the Guwahati High Court.
He then became the judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court on 9 September 2010 and was appointed the Chief Justice here on 12 February 2011. He served as a Supreme Court judge since 23 April 2012.
The former CJI was sworn in as the 46th Chief Justice of the country on October 3, 2018. He was administered the oath of office and secrecy by President Ram Nath Kovind in a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Coming from the northeastern region of the country, he became the first Chief Justice of the country.
Before retiring, he ended many major disputes in the country by giving his verdict like the Ram temple dispute in Ayodhya which has been going on for many decades.
