Riyaz Naikoo belonged to a Kashmiri Muslim family. Since childhood, Riyaz Naikoo was brilliant at studies, Naikoo scored 464 marks out of 600 in the 12th standard. After graduating, Naikoo started teaching Mathematics at a private school in his native town.
One Incident That Led Him To Become a Militant :- It was 11 June 2010, when a tear gas shell struck the 17-year-old Tufail Ahmad Mattoo who was playing cricket at Srinagar’s Gani Memorial Stadium; leading to his death.
The death of Tufail Ahmad Mattoo was followed by massive protests in the valley. These protests gave rise to a culture of stone pelting on the security forces, which became a common occurrence in the valley. Stung by the death of Ahmad Mattoo, Riyaz Naikoo also participated in those protests and the police also arrested him.
In 2012 Riyaz Naikoo had joined the Hizbul Mujahideen. At that time the leader of Hizbul Mujahideen was Burhan Wani.
Naikoo was an A++ category terrorist and had a bounty of Rs. 13 lakh on his head.
