Farooq Abdullah is an Indian politician and president of Jammu & Kashmir National Conference (JKNC). He contested his first election from the Srinagar Constituency of Jammu and Kashmir in 1980 and won. In 1981 Farooq Abdullah was appointed President of the National Conference.
In 1982, he became the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. In 1986, he became the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir for the second time. He also became the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir in 1987, 1996.
In 1999 he joined the Atal Bihari Vajpayee led National Democratic Alliance. In 2002 he elected to the Rajya Sabha from Jammu and Kashmir again in 2009 re-elected to the Rajya Sabha.
